The following represents a step-by-step guide for repairing your Ford F-150 power window to save your time and money;  

  1. Prepare the truck

This is achieved by disconnecting the battery or removing the fuse that controls the window motors, and making sure to secure the window in position while changing the motor.

  1. Remove trim panels

These steps are dependent on truck year and trim level, so some may not apply or will vary slightly:

  1. Wrap the end of the flat head with an electrical tape to prevent it from scratching the door trim.
  2. Remove the upper pillar trim on the door then pull back to un-clip itself.
  3. Pull the door handle, and pry up the plastic square behind it 
  4. Remove the 8mm bolt.
  5. Remove the two bolts on the bottom of the door panel
  6. Remove the door handle by unclipping it from the door panel on the rear side, then slide it through the panel.
  7. Un-clip any wiring harnesses from the switch panel.
  8. Slide the door panel up and pull it off, but still support it.
  9. Make sure nothing is attaching the door panel to the truck
  1. Remove Window Motor
  1. Locate the 2-3 dimples in the upper corner towards the mirror.
  2. Drill a pilot hole in the center of each dimple.
  3. Using your hole saw, drill a hole big enough to fit an 8mm socket through. 
  4. Using the telescoping magnet, remove any metal shavings 
  5. Remove the three 8mm bolts holding the motor in place.
  6. Un-clip the wiring harness from the motor.
  7. Grab the back of the motor, rotate it clockwise towards the door lock.
  8. Once the gears release, pull it towards the outside door skin then remove it.
  1. Re-install
  1. Install is the reverse procedure of the above steps:
  2. Line up the motor and then rotate counter-clockwise to lock into place.
  3. Re-install the three 8mm bolts.
  4. Re-install door panel following the panel removal procedure in reverse, 
  5. Re-install the upper a-pillar trim.
  6. Reconnect the battery or the fuse.

Tools and Materials Needed for Ford F-150 Power Window Replacement
